Men's Golf Finishes T-7th at Inaugural Hamptons Intercollegiate

EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania men's golf team concluded the fall portion of its 2019-20 schedule by tying for seventh place at the inaugural Hamptons Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event, which took place on the par-72 Maidstone Club, was hosted by Loyola (Md.) on Monday and Tuesday.

Penn shot 316 and 319 as a team on Monday, then came back with its best round of the tournament on Tuesday with a 308. That left them at 79-over-par 943 for the event and had them tied with Cornell. The five Ivies in the nine-team field took the fifth through ninth spots with Yale (932) in fifth, Princeton (933) in sixth, and Brown (979) in ninth. Oregon State won the team title with a score of 890, putting the Beavers well ahead of second-place Loyola (922), third-place Richmond (923) and fourth-place Seton Hall (927).

As he has done all fall, junior Mitchell Cornell led the way for the Quakers at Maidstone. He carded a 75-78-77—230 for the tournament and that had him tied for 11th in a field of 54 golfers. Sophomore Mark Haghani matched Cornell's first-round 75 and then had the Red and Blue's low round on Tuesday (76) en route to a 25th-place finish.

Sophomore Carter Prince scored in two of Penn's three rounds and ended the tournament tied for 36th, while Harrison Ornstein improved his score in every round as he finished 40th. Freshman Anthony Basilio placed 53rd. Playing in the field as an individual, freshman Andy Fan improved his score by 13 strokes from Monday to Tuesday and ended the tournament in 51st place.

Oregon State golfers went 1-2-3 in the field. Shawn Lu shot 4-over-par 220 for the tournament and finished a stroke ahead of teammates Spencer Tibbits and Carson Barry.
