HOW IT HAPPENED
The Quakers set the tone early with how they wanted to exploit certain advantages on the court, going down low and letting Parker get work done in the post. The sophomore scored six of Penn's first nine points, and controlled the boards in doing so, popping off the box score at first glance. The Red and Blue surged out to a 20-4 lead, as Parker and Aghayere tag-teamed the front court, while
Phoebe Sterba converted early 3-point attempts in the backcourt.
A three-ball from
Katie Kinum capped the first quarter, with Penn ahead 25-7. The Quakers dominated the glass, 16-5, including six offensive rebounds in the period.
The visiting Fords found their footing in the second quarter, producing their most effective 10-minute period of the game on offense. At one point, Haverford hit five of six field goals, clawing back to a 32-19 deficit, but Penn returned to its bread and butter, hitting Parker down low who converted four-straight layups, doing anything she wanted in the paint.
If it wasn't Parker, it was Aghayere, who took over after Parker's big run to control the offense for the Quakers, and Penn was able to regain its footing on defense, holding a 49-25 advantage at the break. Remarkably, neither team committed a personal foul in the second period of play.
A 10-0 run for the Quakers in the middle of the third quarter was enough to solidify the result, in turn allowing the Red and Blue to utilize their bench. Kinum,
Kennedy Suttle,
Tori Crawford and
Michae Jones all chipped in to extend the Penn lead after halftime.
Haverford was led by 16 points from Megan Furch and 15 from Macy Goldbach, but ultimatley Penn was too much, as the score ready 81-46 at the final buzzer.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Traditional Ivy League weekends await the Quakers, as Penn will hit the road for a trip to Cornell and Columbia, beginning with a matchup against the Big Red on Friday, Feb. 1.
