CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania women's rowing team had another historic day at the Ivy League Championship on Sunday. The Quakers put all four boats in their respective Grand Finals on the Cooper River, and the Varsity 8 had its best finish ever with a third-place finish.
In addition to the Championship races, the Ivy League announced its All-Ivy teams for the 2018 spring and three Penn women were honored as Regina Salmons was named first-team All-Ivy while Frances Kane and Natasha Wood were named second-team All-Ivy.
Varsity 8
Penn advanced to the Grand Final by taking third in its morning heat, clocking 6:59.283 over the Cooper's 2,000-meter course. That was behind Yale (6:48.569) and Brown (6:51.898) but well ahead of Columbia (7:06.224). In the afternoon final, Penn was timed in 6:43.970 which placed them third behind only Princeton (6:37.176) and Yale (6:40.032). Brown was fourth behind the Quakers, followed by Harvard and Dartmouth.
Second Varsity 8
Penn advanced to the Grand Final with a third-place finish in the morning heat. The Quakers were timed in 7:06.204, which was behind Princeton (6:55.624) and Yale (6:58.904) but easily ahead of Cornell (7:16.159). In the final, Penn clocked 7:07.347 and took fifth overall behind champion Princeton (6:47.136), Yale, Brown and Harvard. Dartmouth was sixth.
Varsity 4
Penn was third in its morning heat to advance to the Grand Final, clocking 8:03.606 which was behind Brown (7:56.715) and Harvard (8:00.992) but easily ahead of Columbia (8:17.288). In the afternoon final. The Quakers were sixth in the Grand Final, timed in 8:06.719. Yale was champion of this division in 7:37.659, nearly three seconds ahead of second-place Harvard (7:40.426). Brown was third, Dartmouth was fourth, and Cornell was fifth.
Second Varsity 4
Penn was third in this morning heat, as well, with a time of 8:17.668. Princeton won the heat in 8:05.244, with Brown second (8:11.306) and Harvard fourth (8:25.011). In the afternoon Grand Final, Penn was fifth as the Quakers clocked 8:14.084. Yale was the champion in this division in 8:02.697, well ahead of the field as Princeton was nearly a full five seconds behind in taking second. Brown was third, while Cornell was fourth.
