Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 13 Women's Lacrosse Blows By Drexel, 16-11

PHILADELPHIA – It was the worst of halves. It was the best of halves.

No. 13 Penn (5-0) couldn't muster any semblance of momentum in the first half of its game at Drexel (1-4), but a switch was flipped at halftime and Penn dominated the final period en route to a 16-11 win in a Philadelphia rivalry game.

The Quakers trailed, 5-2, late in the first half but found some momentum off an Abby Bosco goal with 0:13 left in the first period. Erin Barry would follow with the first goal of the second half and Penn suddenly found itself within one at 5-4.

The Dragons would twice regain two-goal leads early in the second half, but a Gabby Rosenzweig goal with 22:54 to play started a 10-0 Penn run which ultimately resulted in a 15-7 Penn lead. Caroline Cummings scored three times in that run for Penn, a personal 3-0 spurt in a span of 1:21 which led to the 15-7 lead.

How It Happened
The Dragons opened a 3-0 lead, bolstered in large part by a pair of Drexel goals 0:49 apart just over ten minutes into the game. The Dragons had a chance to extend their lead to four goals, but the Quakers forced a second shot clock violation of the first half and worked down field in transition. Caroline Cummings would find space behind the cage, dodging past a defender just outside the crease and firing top corner with 15:42 remaining in the first half to get Penn on the board.

Penn scored late in the first half, Abby Bosco taking a Zoe Belodeau pass and finishing with 0:13 left in the first period. That goal cut Drexel's lead to 5-3, Penn taking advantage of an Erin Barry caused turnover right at the start of a Drexel clear.

Penn scored three times in a span of 1:32 early in the second half to tie the game, getting goals from three different players. Belodeau had the equalizer with 22:22 remaining to bring Penn all the way back.

With just over twenty minutes remaining, Penn took its first lead of the game. After a Cheeseman save on the defensive end, Natalie Stefan brought the ball up in transition and found Rosenzweig at the goal for her third of the game and an 8-7 Penn lead.

Erin Barry would connect for her second of the game with 19:08 left, finishing a Rosenzweig pass to give Penn an insurance goal and a 9-7 lead.

Penn would ultimately go on a 10-0 run to take a 15-7 lead. Five different players scored for Penn during that run, including Cummings who had three in that run.

The Red and Blue continue their four-game road trip at No. 25 Georgetown on Saturday, taking on the Hoyas in D.C. at 12 p.m.
