GREENVILLE, S.C. - Furman surged out to an early lead on Penn in the series opener and never looked back, locking up a 12-4 victory behind a slew of offensive weapons. On the other side, the Quaker bats got off to a slow start before scoring three in the fourth inning (to the Paladins' eight through three frames) and their final run in the ninth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Furman (7-5, 0-0 SoCon) batting order attacked Quaker starter
Jack Hartman early and often, racking up four runs in both the first and third innings off the left-hander, before Penn (1-6, 0-0 Ivy) could respond. The fourth saw the Red and Blue nearly cut Furman's lead in half in the fourth, as SS
Matt Tola jacked a sacrifice fly into deep center field to plate RF
Peter Matt before 2B
Chris Adams singled in the gap between first and second to score both C
Matt O'Neill and LF
Tommy Pellis. However, the Paladins would roll back the work Penn did in the fourth over the course of their next three innings at the plate, scoring one in the fourth, two in the fifth and an final run the sixth.
After surrendering eight hits and nine runs through just three innings of work, Penn pulled Hartman for RHP
Dylan Mulvihill. The sophomore made it nearly through two innings before being relieved by a pair of right-handers in freshman
Cole Sichley and junior
Chris Rabasco, who combined for two hits and one run. Junior LHP
John Alan Kendrick wrapped up the game for the Quakers in the final frame without allowing a hit. Furman starter Trent Alley locked down Penn for four and two-thirds innings, giving up five hits and three runs, while reliever John Bertrand took over for the final four and one-third to close the game.
NEXT UP
The Quakers close out the two-game stretch against Furman tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. before wrapping up the spring break road trip with a series at USC Upstate this weekend.
