Men's Lacrosse Back Into Ivy Play, Hosting Cornell at Penn Park

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 15 University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team gets back into Ivy League play this Saturday, hosting Cornell at noon. Please note that Saturday's game will take place on Adams Field in Penn Park and is the first half of a lax doubleheader, as the Penn women host Brown in the second game at approximately 3 p.m. Admission to both games is free.

Saturday's game will air worldwide on the subscription-based Ivy League Network (ILN), now available on Apple TV, Roku and the ILN app for Android and Apple devices.

The Series
The Quakers and the Big Red are meeting for the 93rd time, with Cornell holding a 64-25-3 lead in the series. That said, Penn has won two in a row and three of the last four, with the one loss coming in triple overtime in Ithaca in 2015. Last year, the Quakers defeated the Big Red 10-9 in Ithaca, and two years ago they took a 9-6 win at Franklin Field.

About Cornell
The Big Red (3-3, 0-1 Ivy) opened Ivy play with a 13-11 loss to No. 8 Yale last week in Ithaca. Their wins this season have come against Hobart, Binghamton and Penn State (which beat Penn). Jeff Teat, a sophomore who was second-team All-Ivy last year, leads Cornell's attack with 16 goals and 18 assists for 34 points. Clarke Petterson—honorable mention All-Ivy in 2017—has 14 goals, while Jordan Dowiak has 13. Overall, 13 different players have scored for the Red. Defenseman Jake Pulver was a second-team All-Ivy pick last year. In goal, Christian Knight has a .600 save percentage and a 9.39 GAA.

About Penn
*Penn has two players on this year's Tewaaraton Award Watch List, senior Connor Keating and junior Simon Mathias.

*Mathias continues to lead the Quakers with 26 points (14g, 12a) after tying a career high with five assists and six points Tuesday vs. Bucknell. In addition, his point-scoring streak is up to 36 games which is every game of his college career and the tenth-longest streak in the country.

*Senior Kevin McGeary had three points against Bucknell (2g, 1a), giving him 20 so far this season with 15 goals and five assists.

*Junior Tyler Dunn was shut out on Tuesday after scoring five goals in each of Penn's previous two games (3/10 vs. Villanova, 3/17 at Princeton); he is tied with McGeary for Penn's goal-scoring lead (15).

*Adam Goldner scored four times against the Bison and now has 12 goals on the season, as well as an assist.

*Senior Reilly Hupfeldt (4g, 3a), freshman Sean Lulley (4g, 3a) and junior Joe Licciardi (2g, 5a) have seven points each this season.

*Penn has had two long poles score this season, as All-America candidate Keating scored against Michigan—amazingly, his 29th career goal—while Jack Ullrich tallied against Maryland. In the Duke win, Keating had two assists including a feed on the winner.

*Overall, Penn has had 14 different goal scorers this season—they had seven last Saturday at Princeton—and 17 players record at least a point.

*At the other end, junior Reed Junkin—the 2016 co-Ivy League Rookie of the Year with teammate Mathias—has a .557 save percentage and an 8.00 goals against average. He came up with a career-high 20 saves and allowed just seven goals last Saturday at Princeton.

*The Quakers return their top 11 scorers from last season. Of the 147 goals scored by the Quakers a year ago, all but six were scored by players who return to this year's roster.

*Keating was a third-team USILA All-America selection last year after earning honorable mention recognition as a sophomore. He is the top-scoring LSM in the country, entering the season with 28 goals and six assists for 34 career points.

*Mathias—who led Penn in goals (28), assists (20) and points (48) last year—was a second-team All-Ivy selection last year after sharing Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors in 2016 with Junkin.

*McGeary (23-12—35 in 2017) and Dunn (18-4—22) received honorable mention All-Ivy recognition last year.

*Three other players had a double-digit goal total last year: senior Hupfeldt (18), Goldner (11), and Keating. Roesner nearly joined the list, with nine goals.

*Santangelo was Penn's top face-off man last year, finishing with a .528 win percentage in 231 draws. Richie Lenskold had 73 faceoffs and had a .479 win percentage.
