How it Happened
The Quakers wrapped up their first Ivy League series on Sunday looking to avoid a sweep against Columbia. After falling narrowly in the first two games in extra innings, Penn went into game three hoping for a win.

As had been the case in the previous two games, The Red and Blue jumped out to an early lead. This time it was Lucy Yang hitting a home run, a three run-shot, to put her team up 3-0. It was her second homer of the series and third of the season.

Penn then extended its lead with a second-straight three-run inning in the second with back-to-back singles. Sam Pederson singled to center, bringing in Sarah Ketring, and on the next at-bat Cwiertnia brought in a run of her own, singling to right and scoring Pederson who had stolen second and advanced to third on an error.

Up 8-2 with the help of two RBI each from Ketring and Tabitha Dyer, Penn still could not shake Columbia as the Lions hit a home run to bring the score within four.

Going into the seventh with an 8-4 lead, senior pitcher Mason Spichiger came in to close with her team still up, 8-5, and a Columbia a runner on second. Extra innings would not be needed this time around, as Spichiger forced three straight flyouts to end the game and earn her first save in two years.

What's Next
Weather permitting, the Quakers will travel across the city to play fellow Big 5 foe La Salle. They will then return home on Saturday for another Ivy League series, this time against Dartmouth. That series will start at 12:30 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, before wrapping up on Sunday.
