Top Six Push Women's Squash Past Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. - As has been the case for much of the season, it was the top six on the ladder that gave the University of Pennsylvania women's squash team the edge. On Friday night, the Quakers defeated No. 8 Cornell 6-3 winning each of matchups 1-6 while falling in the 7-9 slots. Penn improves to .500 in the Ivy as they are 3-3 with one match remaining. They will host Columbia on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Ringe for senior day.

As per usual, it was Reeham Salah headlining the way for Penn. The junior lost just nine points on her way to a 11-3, 11-1, 11-5 victory. Salah remains undefeated this season and has set herself up to be the first player in the program's history to win back to back Ivy League Player of the Year awards.

Seniors Melissa Alves and Marie Stephan got their final regular season weekend off to a good start. Alves toughed out two straight 12-10 games to start her match before losing the third 11-5. She then won the fourth 11-5 to seal the match. Stephan swept in three winning 11-6, 11-5, 11-6.

The underclassmen in the 4-6 slots also performed well. Julia Buchholz won in three at number six while Haley Scott and Lindsay Stanley each won in four. Scott split the opening two games before winning what would be the last two,11-6, 11-6. Stanley also won the first but lost the second before eventually holding tough winning 14-12 in the fourth.

The Quakers return home on Sunday at 1 p.m. as they host Columbia for senior day.
