Men's Squash Falls in Close Ivy Battle to Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass - The University of Pennsylvania men's squash team (9-4, 3-2 Ivy) fell in yet another close Ivy battle, this time to No. 3 Harvard, 5-4, on the road. With the loss, the Quakers move to 3-2 in the Ivy, with their only other loss being a 5-4 defeat to Princeton that came last week. Penn will finish its Ivy road matches on Friday when the travel to Cornell before they wrap up conference play on Sunday at Ringe against Columbia.

After going 3-0 in five game matches on Saturday against Dartmouth, Penn went 2-2 against Harvard. Andrew Douglas and Max Reed came out with wins while Derek Hsue and James Watson fell just short.

At the top slot, Douglas once again endured a five game battle. The freshman lost the first game 11-5, but came back to win the next two 11-7, 12-10 before falling in the fourth in an epic 14-12 game. Much like he did Saturday and all season, Douglas dug deep to win the decider 11-6. The freshman improves to 3-1 in five game matches this season.

Max Reed won a fifth game of his own. Reed won the first and third games, but lost the fourth 11-5 headed into the fifth knotted at two games apiece. The senior would then win the fifth that was tightly contested, 11-8.

Falling in five game matches were James Watson and Derek Hsue. Watson tried to mount a comeback down two games to one and tied it up at two games all winning the fourth 11-8. Unfortunately, he could not win the fifth as the senior fell 11-9. Hsue meanwhile won the fourth 11-6 and then went down 11-2 in the decider.

Also coming out with wins for the Quakers were Karim Hussein and Yash Bhargava. Hussein won the opening two games before losing the third only to bounce back and win 11-9 in the fourth. Bhargava split the opening two games, but toughed out a 12-10 fourth game to win the match.

Penn will be back in action on Friday as it travels to Cornell to face the Big Red in Ithaca.
