Women's Squash Loses 5-4 to Stanford in Howe Cup Consolation Finals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The University of Pennsylvania women's squash team played their finale at the Howe Cup on Sunday morning against Stanford. While narrowly, the Quakers fell to The Cardinal 5-4 to wrap up the CSA national tournament. Penn won at each of the top four spots, but lost in the bottom five to end with a 1-2 record.

The Red and Blue's win came over Columbia while the losses came to to both Princeton and Stanford.

How it Happened

The Quakers have been strong in the top-3 for the most part all season and that was once again the case on Sunday against Stanford. Reeham Salah, Melissa Alves, and Marie Stephan each swept 3-0. Haley Scott also had her second strong performance of the weekend as she won another five-game match, her second in as many matches.

Scott lost the first two games on Saturday before coming back to win in five. It would take another come from behind effort on Sunday as the freshman found herself down two games to one. Refusing to go down without a fight, Scott won the fourth game 11-6 and toughed out the fifth 11-9 to win the match 3-2.

Getting wins at the top-four spots, Penn needed just one more in the bottom five to come away with a victory. However, they would not be able to get it as none of the bottom-five matches were extended past three games in what were all losses.
