Notes To Know
- Penn returns to Midlands following a 2017 trip which resulted in Penn's best team finish since 2001. The Quakers placed ninth as a group last season, totaling 54.0 points.
- The Red and Blue had three wrestlers finish in the Top-8 last season, their most placewinners at Midlands since four reached the podium in 2003.
- Penn will look to replace those three medal winners, though. Frank Mattiace (2nd at 197), Joe Heyob (5th at 184) and May Bethea (6th at 165) have all graduated.
- Five Quakers who will compete this weekend – Tristin DeVincenzo, Jake Lizak, Jon Errico, Patrik Garren, and Tyler Hall – each won at least one match last year at Midlands.
- Penn's best finish at Midlands as a team was fourth in 1999. That group was coached by current Penn head coach Roger Reina.
- The Quakers have placed 33 wrestlers all-time at Midlands.
- Two Quakers have won Midlands championships – Andrei Rodzianko (1998; 197 pounds) and Yoshi Nakamura (2001; 157 pounds).
