Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 in Overtime at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - The University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team fought back to equalize late, but eventually fell 2-1 in overtime at Princeton on Saturday evening.

PENN NOTES
*Penn has played 11 overtime matches in 15 outings this season.

*Penn's goal in the 84th minute came from sophomore defender Alex Touche, his fourth of the season to lead the team.

*Touche's goal came on an assist from Brandon Bartel, his fifth of the season, sending a looping ball into the box off a corner kick.

*The Quakers have now gone into overtime against the Tigers in three-straight years, with this year's 2-1 result mirroring that of last year.

*Penn is now 48-45-10 all-time against the Tigers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Penn struggled to get its offense rolling in the first half, only notching one shot in the opening half of play on a header from Erumuse Momoh. True to form though was the Quakers' defense, not allowing Princeton to settle into too much of a rhythm of its own.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the 37th minute, scoring a goal from Will Lentz on a long ball in from the left flank. The Red and Blue were able to muster some corner kick opportunities near the end of the period, but went into the break down a goal.

Princeton opened the second half with more offensive chances before the Quakers featured their best chance of the night on another header from Momoh, forcing a save from the Princeton goalkeeper. As time went on, Penn advanced its attack as the Tigers were looking to hold on.

Always with a flare for the dramatic, the Quakers found the goal they were looking for in the 84th minute in a way not uncommon to many scored for the Red and Blue this season. Bartel set up a corner kick on the right side, looping the ball into the box and finding the head of 6-4 Touche, who sent it directly to the back of the net.

Bartel nearly won in walk-off fashion for the Red and Blue, squaring up a strong chance on goal with less than 10 seconds remaining in regulation, forcing a save from Princeton's keeper.

Princeton quickly regained its momentum as play ventured into overtime, peppering in a few chances around the Penn penalty box. After a Tiger goal was brought back after being whistled for offsides, Princeton would find the winner in the 98th minute from Jeremy Colvin.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Quakers conclude their season with a final match on Rhodes Field, playing host to the Harvard Crimson on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m.
