Field Hockey Dropped After Second Half Surge by Princeon

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team was dropped by Princeton on the last game of the season after a late goal by the Tigers gave Princeton a 3-2 lead.

NOTES

*Alexa Schneck scored her ninth and tenth goals of the season. She finishes the season as Penn's leader in all offensive categories with 25 points.

*Paige Meily tallied her first defensive save of the season in the 67th minute, holding Princeton's lead to one goal.

*The Quakers finish with a 5-2 record in the ivy League, their best finish since 2015.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Quakers started strong and took an early lead through Alexa Schneck. The junior received a pass from Rachel Mirkin and broke past the Princeton defense. Schneck chipped a shot over the keeper and into the back of the cage.

Princeton, however, responded ten minutes later. On the Tigers second corner of the game, Maddie Bacskai converted to level the game.

Penn nearly regained the lead on the Quakers' first corner of the game. Erin Quinn received the ball after Julia Russo's shot was blocked, but Quinn's shot went just wide of the cage.

Penn took the lead minutes later. Sofia Palacios hit a hard pass into the circle after a foul. The ball found Schneck, who tipped it past the goalkeeper. The goal was Schneck's tenth of the season and eighth against Ivy League opponents.

The Tigers came out in the second half with newfound motivation. They tied the game three minutes into the start of the half and continued to pepper the Penn goal for the remainder of the game.

Princeton took the lead, the Tigers' first lead of the game, in the 55th minute of play. The Quakers pulled their keeper with five minutes to go but could not find an equalizer.

Penn closes out its season with a 9-8 record and finishes in third place in the Ivy League after posting a 5-2 conference record. Their two losses in Ivy play came to first place Harvard and second place Princeton, each by just one goal.
