How It Happened
Things started slowly for the Quakers, as DSU scored the first five points of the night. At that point, head coach
Steve Donahue inserted senior
Jake Silpe and freshman
Michael Wang and things settled down. After the teams traded three-point baskets, Penn went on a 10-0 run to take a lead it would never relinquish. That advantage extended past 20 points before halftime, but the Hornets used a mini-run that was capped by a trey at the buzzer to make the score 41-27 at the half.
Â
Penn scored the first six points of the second half to push the lead back up to 20 points, at 47-27, and the streak continued as the Quakers locked down on defense. Delaware State scored just two points in the first 7:06 of the period, and the Hornets' second field goal didn't come until just 8:23 was left in the game. Meanwhile, the Red and Blue kept pouring it on and led by as many as 37, at 69-32.
