HOW IT HAPPENED
Defense reigned supreme in the first half of the game for both teams, as neither the Quakers nor the Black Bears seemed to find their rhythm offensively to start. Uncharacteristically, Penn had turnover struggles in the first period of action, stifling its offense, but Maine was unable to capitalize on the Quakers' mistakes.

Penn was able to hold Maine scoreless from the field for the final 4:46 of the first quarter, and a late 3-pointer from sophomore Katie Kinum pushed the Quakers ahead 9-8 at the end of one.

With a distinct size advantage, the Red and Blue made a concerted effort to go inside, despite Maine's double teams and traps. Tori Crawford found success early in the second quarter for Penn's first four points, before Kinum connected again from distance to give Penn it's largest lead, 16-11.

A flagrant foul from Parker stymied Penn's momentum, but the sophomore made up for it on offense, fighting for a tough eight points at the halftime break, with Penn ahead 20-18 entering the locker room.

The Black Bears came out of the locker room throwing a punch, quickly tying the game twice before taking a 25-22 lead on a 3-pointer from Blanca Millan. Penn kept its composure, looking inside to Parker and Aghayere to stay in it, before regaining the lead on free throws from Crawford. Another shot from distance put Maine back ahead, but the Quakers ended the period on a 6-0 run, with Kinum adding two more 3-pointers, building a 37-32 lead.

The Quakers were able to stretch their lead out to six, at 41-35, midway through the final stanza, despite four-straight turnovers for Penn. After Parker collected a bucket on the second-chance opportunity, Maine hit a 3-pointer to claw back within three, at 43-40. Both teams would again go cold from the field, with the Quakers defense coming up big in key moments, featuring a steal from Grasela and a block from Parker to maintain their advantage as long as they could.

With Penn up 44-42 after a free throw from Parker, Maine hit a 3-pointer with the shot clock winding down, giving the Black Bears the 45-44 lead. With 17.7 seconds left out of the timeout, Penn went right back down low to Parker, who converted to sway Penn back ahead, 46-45.

The Black Bears hit a driving layup with 5.5 seconds remaining, allowing the Quakers one final chance, but Penn turned it over on its final possession to give Maine comeback win.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Quakers will have a 10-day break from action before resuming Big 5 play home at The Palestra, facing off against La Salle on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.
