PHILADELPHIA - For the first time since 2015, the University of Pennsylvania women's squash team (4-0) has started the season with four wins and no losses. Penn defeated George Washington, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Kline and Specter Squash Center after their big win over Stanford the day before. In that special 2015-16 season, Penn advanced to the final of the Howe Cup.
How it Happened
Saturday was much less tense than the day before against No. 4 Stanford. All of seven Penn wins came via sweep. The Quakers got early victories from
Jessica Davis,
Julia Buchholz, and
Clare Kearns to take an early 3-2 lead into the second shift of matches.
While the first shift was close, the second was all Penn. After a tough battle the day before and being the night's hero,
Jamila Tamer was off the court quickly, winning 3-0.
Nicole Windreich then clinched the match for the Quakers at number seven as she also swept.
With just
Lindsay Stanley and
Reeham Salah on court, the Red and Blue looked to extend their lead. Stanley won the third game of her match 11-9 to finish her match, 3-0 and then Salah made the win official as she came out victorious at number one without dropping a game.
What's Next
The Quakers will wrap up the weekend against Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Kline and Specter Squash Center. Penn will be looking to go 5-0 for the first time since 2014-15 when it won the Ivy League title.
