How It Happened
Penn jumped out to a double-digit lead early on, as buckets from five different players spurred a 12-2 run that gave the Quakers a 17-6 advantage. Lafayette fought back with 11 straight points to get back level at 17-17, but after the teams traded points the Quakers were back off and running. Out of a timeout,
AJ Brodeur's activity under the boards gave Penn three chances at the basket, all from beyond the arc, and after
Devon Goodman and
Jake Silpe missed theirs
Antonio Woods finally hit his to make it 22-19.
Â
Goodman made the next play, stealing it at one end and throwing down a two-handed slam at the other. Lafayette's Dylan Hastings stopped Penn's 7-0 run, but back-to-back treys by
Jarrod Simmons and Goodman were the impetus to another 9-0 run, and then a Myles Cherry three for the Pards was answered by seven more Quakers points en route to a 44-27 halftime lead.
Â
Any thoughts that Lafayette might rally in the second half were quickly squashed. Woods hit a three-pointer to open the second-half scoring and Penn scored 16 of the first 19 points in the period. At that point the Quakers had doubled up the Leopards, 60-30, and the lead blew up to as much as 35 (84-49) before settling on the final margin of 30 points..
