Another One! Women's Squash Edges Drexel For Second Consecutive Pennsylvania State Classic Title!

LANCASTER, Pa. - For the second consecutive year, the University of Pennsylvania women's squash team defeated No. 9 Drexel in the final of the Pennsylvania State Classic to win the title. While Sunday required much for grit and perseverance, the Quakers pulled through when all was said and done, defeating the Dragons, 5-4. Penn had its ups and downs throughout the lineup, but won a fifth match to secure its second straight title.

How it Happened

After defeating Franklin & Marshall, 8-1, on Saturday, Sunday's match against No. 9 Drexel was a lot tighter and proved to be an early season test for the Red and Blue. Reeham Salah and Jessica Davis were once again solid at the top of the lineup. Salah was nearly flawless losing just two points en route to an 11-1, 11-1, 11-0 victory. Davis was also impressive in her 3-0, 11-6, 11-6, 11-2 win.

Julia Tamer, Clare Kearns, and Margaret Frantz each fell short at the No. 3, No. 6, and No. 8 spots in the lineup, but Julia Buchholz and Nicole Windreich were able to tie the match up at 4-4 overall. The match would come down to Lindsay Stanley who was in the middle of a tight battle at No. 5.

Tied 4-4 and the result of the match riding on her shoulders, the Stanley came through in a big way for the Red and Blue. The junior lost the opening two very tight games 12-10, 12-10 to go down 2-0. Stanley fought back to take the next two games and even the match up at two game apiece taking the third and fourth, 11-9, 11-6. With the result of the match and title on the line, the junior pulled through for the Quakers taking the fifth and final game 11-7, securing the Pennsylvania State Classic title.

What's Next

The Quakers will take on No. 4 Stanford at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and No. 14 George Washington at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Kline and Specter Squash Center.
