Volleyball Falls to First Place Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The University of Pennsylvania volleyball team (5-16, 2-8 Ivy) fell to first place Yale on Saturday night, 3-0. The Quakers concluded their second of three straight road trips. Penn will hit the road for the final time this season next week against Columbia and Cornell. 

Inside the Numbers - Box Score

* The Quakers finished with just three fewer kills than the Bulldogs. Penn recorded 34 while Yale had 37.

* Penn still leads the all-time series 35-30.

* For the fourth time this season, Taylor Cooper finished with at least six blocks at the net. 

* Raven Sulaimon and Madison Goldstein finished the match tied with nine kills which led the team. 

* Goldstein finished with an attack percentage of .500 on 16 total attacks. Her .500 efficiency marks a new career high. 

How it Happened

The Quakers took on the first place Bulldogs on Saturday night in New Haven. Penn got off to a slow start as Yale took the match's first five points. However, Penn climbed back with a 4-0 run to come within one at 8-9. Another 4-0 run by Yale put the Bulldogs up six late in the set. The Quakers came back within three, but Yale took the first set 25-21.

A 7-2 run by the Bulldogs in the middle of the second set put the Quakers down, 19-13, as Yale went on its way to taking the set, 25-17.

The third set saw the Red and Blue jumping out to an early lead on Yale. Kills by Parker Jones and Madison Goldstein put the Quakers up 7-2. However, the Bulldogs took the lead on an 8-1 run to put Penn down 10-8 and then an 8-0 run made it 21-14 for Yale. Penn came within two with kills from Raven Sulaimon and Jones to make it 24-22, but the comeback fell just short as the Quakers fell 25-22 and 3-0 overall.

What's Next

The Quakers head on the road next weekend once again to take on Columbia and Cornell. Penn defeated both teams earlier this season at The Palestra.
