PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team allowed Temple to go on extended offensive runs to start and end the second half on Saturday, and it was the second run that was particularly effective. The Owls scored the game's last 12 points to take a 60-51 decision from the Quakers at The Palestra.
The loss snapped a three-game win for Penn, which fell to 12-6 overall and 0-3 in Big 5 play. Temple improved to 10-9 overall and finishes its Big 5 campaign at 2-2.

How It Happened
Offense was hard to come by on both sides in the first half, as Temple was just 8-of-26 from the field and the Quakers were just 9-of-30. As a result, neither team was able to open up much of a lead, the Owls with the largest at 16-10. Penn used an 8-1 run to get back in front, and the Quakers were still up 25-24 at the break.
Temple immediately opened the second half with a three-pointer from Obi Enechionyia, and that set the Owls off on a 14-1 run as the Quakers continued to struggle on offense. The Red and Blue's first point of the half came on a free throw from
Max Rothschild with 17:20 left, and the first field goal didn't come until 6:42 of game action had passed when
Darnell Foreman scored a layup.
It was still 42-33 Temple when the Quakers made a run.
Antonio Woods and
AJ Brodeur scored layups on consecutive possessions, and then after trading baskets with the Owls the Red and Blue scored seven unanswered to cut Temple's lead to one, at 46-45.
It was
Caleb Wood who got the Quakers all the way back, hitting a trey with 4:40 left that tied the score at 48-48, and then Brodeur hit a three that pushed Penn in front 51-48. Overall, the run was 18-6.
As it turned out, those would be Penn's final points.
Temple tied it right back up on a Shizz Alston Jr. trey, and then after an offensive foul on the Quakers J.P. Moorman got into the lane and hit a shot in traffic. Penn had a few opportunities to tie it after that, the first coming when Rothschild missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and the second when Brodeur drove but missed a low-angle shot with his off hand. Josh Brown then hit a dagger trey for the Owls to make it a 56-51 game inside a minute.
