PHILADELPHIA - The New Year is here, meaning it's time for the indoor track and field season to hit full swing. For the University of Pennsylvania programs, the Quakers will start things off at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md., with action beginning on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 11:00 a.m.
Hosted by the United States Naval Academy at the Wesley A. Brown Field House, Penn will face off against the host Midshipmen, as well as George Mason, Mount Saint Mary's, and South Carolina. Field events begin with the men's weight throw at 11 a.m., while the men's and women's 60m hurdles kick off the racing 50 minutes later.
The Quakers have already competed twice this season, posting strong results at the Lehigh Season Opener and Princeton's New Year Invitational. On the track, Penn has posted lightning fast times in the 4x400m relay on both the men's and women's side. The quartet of

Candace Taylor currently on the nation's 13th-best time at 3:46.56, while Ryan Bender, Calvary Rogers, William Duchow and Jeff Wiseman darted to a time of 3:16.92 last time out in the same event.
Freshman Marvin Morgan has already found his way in the program record books in the 60m dash with a time of 6.91, the first Quaker since 2013 to crack the top-10 in the event on the men's side.
In field events, the conversation begins with junior

For the men, Sean Ryan moved himself up to No. 4 all-time at Penn in the weight throw with a distance of 18.71m (61-4.75), while a large contingent of freshman throwers have put their hat in the ring, including Jake Kubiatowicz, Nolan Van Amen and Campbell Parker.
During winter break, pole vaulter Sean Clarke was named Rookie of the Year for the 2016-17 season by HepsTrack.com after a stellar freshman campaign that featured second-team All-America status. Clarke has already made a splash in the indoor season, rising up to No. 3 in the Penn record books with a clearance of 5.18m at Princeton last time out.
