PREVIEWING PENN
*The Red and Blue return home after a tough week on the road locally, dropping battles to both La Salle and Drexel. Against the Dragons, Penn netted a score from
Sam Wancowicz just minutes into the second half to cut the lead to 2-1, but ultimately couldn't find the equalizer.
*Senior
Joe Swenson continues to pace the Quakers on offense, leading the squad with two goals this fall and five shots on goal for the year. In 2015, Swenson scored both goals for the Quakers in a 2-0 home victory over the Big Red.
*Wancowicz has been firing away freely of late, moving up from his spot of right back to send in a barrage of attacks towards the opponent. The senior captain leads Penn with 15 shots on the year.
*There will be a familial connection on the field for both squads Saturday, as Penn freshman
Alex Touche's twin brother Charles plays for the Big Red. Alex has started the past two contests for the Quakers on the backline, while Charles has played in all eight games for Cornell as a forward.
*Six Quakers have played and started in all seven games this season: Wancowicz, Swenson,
Gavin Barger,
Jerel Blades,
Brandon Bartel and
Erumuse Momoh.
*The Quakers have split action in the net almost equally this season, using juniors
Scott Forbes and
Etan Mabourakh. Forbes owns four starts this season with 10 saves and a GAA of 2.25, while Mabourakh has corralled 16 saves and given up five goals in three starts.
NEWS AND NOTES: CORNELL
*The Big Red venture to University City sporting a 4-3-1 record on the year, after going just 1-14-2 a season ago. Cornell brings momentum to its matchup with Penn, having won its last three matches, including a victory over then No. 11 Syracuse in overtime.
*Penn has played Cornell more than any other opponent in its history, sporting a healthy lead in the all-time series 58-32-13. The Quakers have proved victorious four years in a row, including a dramatic 2-1 double overtime win last season in Ithaca. During its current four-game win streak over Cornell, Penn has outscored the Big Red 6-1. Coach
Rudy Fuller owns an 11-7-1 record against Cornell in his 19 seasons at the helm.
*Cornell offers a balanced attack offensively and is led by Tommy Hansan who owns six points on three goals this fall. The Big Red have scored 13 goals on the year from eight different players. In the goal, Cornell has split time between Mitchell Meyer and Ryan Shellow. Meyer owns a GAA of 0.88 in three starts while Shellow sits at 2.03 in five starts.
