Men's Soccer Unable to Rally at La Salle

Box Score (PDF)

PHILADELPHIA -
Despite winning the shots battle, the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team found itself on the losing end of a Philadelphia Soccer Six showdown at La Salle on Wednesday night, losing by a 3-0 margin. The loss drops the Quakers to 1-5 on the year.

KEY MOMENTS
*Penn opened the contest on the attack, notching the game's first shot on a high strike from Joe Swenson just over the La Salle crossbar.

*It didn't take long for the Explorers to get on the scoreboard, as the home team took advantage of their first real opportunity of the game in the 12th minute on a goal from Mike Liska.

*The Quakers nearly equalized the contest in the 15th minute as senior captain Sam Wancowicz came racing down the right sideline, rocketing a shot just left of the goal.

*Matt Robinson scored La Salle's second goal of the night and his fourth of the season in the 22nd minute, putting Penn in an early 2-0 hole.

*Arguably Penn's best shot on offense of the night came right before halftime on a flurry of shots and corner kicks. First Barger nailed the ball on the top of the crossbar, before Swenson sent a shot on goal captured by the La Salle keeper. Casey Barone ended the flurry with a high kick over the goal.

*Ivy League Rookie of the Week Jake Kohlbrenner nearly struck again from the same spot in which he scored against SIUE but was unable to find the angle past the goalle on a shot in the 54th minute.

*The deficit would increase to 3-0 for the Quakers in the 60th minute on a shot hammered home by La Salle's Soji Olatoye.

PENN NOTES
*The loss to the Explorers is just the fourth time in program history that La Salle has defeated the Quakers.

*Alex Touche and Wes Maki made the first starts of their careers for the Red and Blue at McCarthy Stadium.

*Henry Sherwood Caballero, Filip Guhr, Nicky Goldlust and Giacomo Giordano all earned their first collegiate minutes against the Explorers.

*Swenson and Barger led the team in shots on the night with three each.

*In addition to owning more shots than La Salle, the Quakers earned six corners to the Explorers' four.

*Etan Mabourakh corralled four saves on the night.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Quakers will continue their tour of the city of Philadelphia with the University City Derby at Drexel on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.
