Sprint Football Opens 2017 Season With Rout of Caldwell, 69-6

WEST CALDWELL, N.J. - Quarterback Eddie Jenkins' 274 yards of total offense in Saturday's season opener at Caldwell were more than enough as the University of Pennsylvania sprint football team rolled to a 69-6 victory over the host Cougars. The Quakers posted 561 yards of total offense on the day, while the Penn defense stood tall all day long - allowing just 209 yards in the dominant week one triumph.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
*Penn was fast out of the gates in the 2017 season opener, ripping off a five-play, 72 yard drive on the opening possession which ended in a Jenkins one-yard touchdown run.

*The Quaker defense matched the intensity on the other side of the ball on Caldwell's opening drive, forcing the Cougars to punt after a three-and-out that netted negative eight yards.

*Penn would go on to reach the end zone on its next nine consecutive possessions - including two rushing scores and a 34-yard touchdown reception for Jake Klaus, who finished the day with 208 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns.

*Defensively, the Quakers were just as strong - if not better - throughout the duration of the contest. Penn forced seven turnover on downs and did not allow any points on the board until the 9:20 mark of the third quarter. Freshman Matt Gorman led the way with six solo tackles on the afternoon - while the defensive unit racked up four sacks - including two from Kevin Lajeunesse.

*Jenkins reeled off three touchdown passes on consecutive drives, including a 25-yard strike to Marcus Jones and a seven-yard pass to Billy Murphy to cap off his first half.

*Penn completetly put the game out of reach in the second half with three scores on the ground. Aidan Kelly made it a 48-point lead with a 12-yard touchdown run before Zack DiGregorio's four-yard scamper to the end zone made it a 62-6 game.

*Ryan Leone was a major factor in the backfield alongside Klaus, carrying for 95 yards and a touchdown on the day. Alex Fruhbeis also added 35 yards and a fourth-quarter score out of the backfield.

Penn (1-0) travels to Chestnut Hill for week two of CSFL play Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
