Women's Squash Splits Virginia Road Trip

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - After a successful opening weekend last week at home winning the inaugural Pennsylvania State Classic, the University of Pennsylvania women's squash team (3-1) looked to continue that success on the road. While they did not remain undefeated, the Quakers began the road trip with an 8-1 win over no. 13 Virginia before falling 6-3 to no. 5 Stanford.

Penn got off to a strong start against the no. 13 Cavaliers. Five of the Quakers' eight wins came in three games with Reeham Salah winning her match losing just five points in the process. Rowaida Attia, Haley Scott, and Julia Buchholz all toughed out their matches in four games. Scott held on to win a hard-fought third game 14-12 before winning the fourth game with a comfortable 11-5 score. Buchholz and Attia each won 12-10 sets of their own on their way to victory.

In The Red and Blue's loss to Stanford, Salah, Buchholz, and Kearns earned the three wins for the Quakers. Once again Buchholz won in four games. After losing the first game 11-4, the freshman showed resilience winning the next game 11-9 and then winning her second 14-12 game of the day in the process. Kearns also came out with a 14-12 game win in her match as well to clinch her match.

In the other matches, the Quakers couldn't quite catch the breaks the needed to pull out the win. At the number two slot, Davis came back after losing the third game to tie the match up at two games apiece with an 11-5 fourth game win. However, she fell in the final, decisive game 11-8. Scott lost the first game, but bounced back to win the second. In the third and fourth games came up just short losing 11-8 and 11-9.
