PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania men's squash team began their season Saturday as they took on the their home tournament, the inaugural Pennsylvania State Classic held at The Ringe Courts. Looking to build off a successful weekend at the Ivy Scrimmages a week ago, the Quakers made a statement as they shutout Franklin and Marshall 9-0.
While maybe even more impressive, The Red and Blue had just three matches go longer than three games.
David Yacobucci pulled out a tough five-game match as he defeated Yannis Senkel 11-2 in the final game.
Marwan Mahmoud also battled out a tough five-game match. Down two games to one, Mahmoud won the final two games 11-4, 11-4 to take the match.
Playing in their first regular season matches,
Andrew Douglas, Yash Bhargava, and
Ryan Murray all won in their debuts at Ringe. Douglas and Murray made out of their matches in three straight games, while Bhargava lost a tough third game 15-17, but bounced back to close out his match in four games.
Coming up, the Quakers take on fellow 33rd street opponent, Drexel, as they play in and the first ever Pennsylvania State Classic final.
