Win Streak Comes to an End as Volleyball Falls to Dartmouth

Hanover, N.H. - Riding a 22-match win streak to Dartmouth and winners of their last four matches, the University of Pennsylvania women's volleyball team (12-10, 7-6 Ivy) fell to The Big Green on Friday night in straight sets (25-14, 25-23, ) ending both streaks. With the loss the Quakers are now 7-6 in Ivy play and will look to end the season on a high note as they now head to Cambridge to take on Harvard.

Inside the Numbers

* The Quakers had their hitting performances of the season as they hit just .109 compared to Dartmouth's .280. The Big Green also had 10 more kills with 47 compared to Penn's 37.

* With the loss, Penn's 22 match win streak to Dartmouth comes to an end. It's the first time the Quakers have lost 3-0 to Dartmouth since 2006 which was also the last time the team lost to The Big Green.

 * Parker Jones lead the team in kills with 12. The freshman also added to her season total in double-doubles as she had 14 digs. Jones has 12 double-doubles on the season.

* Jones surpasses 300 kills on the season as she now has 305. With 19 kills Saturday against Harvard, she will tie for the most kills for a freshman for Penn volleyball.

How it Happened

From the get go, the Quakers were unable to get much going against the Big Green. The Red and Blue came out slow as Dartmouth started out on an 8-1 run that Penn was not able to recover from. An 8-0 run made the score 16-3 and while the Quakers made a small run at the end of the set, it was too much as they fell 25-14.

Penn once again got down early right away in the second set falling behind 6-1. A service ace from Michelle Pereira pulled the score within two at 6-4 and a kill by Parker Jones pulled the Quakers within one at 7-6. A 3-0 run from Dartmouth put them up 17-12 at the midpoint of the set which proved to be the difference. Penn won four of five points near the end to make the score 24-23, but it was too late as The Big Green won the next point to win the set 25-23.

The third and final set was much more competitive throughout as the first ten points saw five ties and neither team lead by more than three at any point in the set. A kill by Jones tied the score late at 23-23 and a bad set by Dartmouth gave Penn a set point. However, the Quakers were unable to win the point to extend the match. Freshman Raven Sulaimon tied the set up at 25, saving a match point, but it would not be enough. The Big Green won the next two points to seal the match 3-0.

What's Next

The Quakers head to Cambridge to take on Harvard, a team they lost to 3-2 earlier in the season at The Palestra. Penn will be looking to close the season off with a win which would clinch a winning record in conference play and put them in third place in the Ivy standings. It would be the Red and Blue's best finish since 2013.
