ITHACA, N.Y. - Quarterback
Eddie Jenkins threw for 335 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for two more scores en route to the University of Pennsylvania's 45-14 win at Cornell Friday night. The Penn defense returned to its dominant ways in the effort, forcing four turnovers while allowing just 279 yards of total offense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
*On Cornell's opening possession, the Big Red faced a 3rd & 11 at their own 39 yard line. Cornell's signal-caller Ostrander looked to complete a pass on the sideline, but
Tom Console stepped in front of it to pick it off, setting up Penn with great field position on their first drive in the process.
*On the ensuing possession, Jenkins scampered into the end zone on a seven-yard, designed bootleg run to the right hash marks to cap off a nine-play, 52-yard opening drive.
*Following a botched snap that set up Cornell on its own five yard line after the kickoff,
Matteo Murgia got in the backfield and sacked Ostrander, causing a fumble that
Quinn Karam dove on for the touchdown – the Quakers second straight game with a defensive score.
*Jenkins found wideout
Marcus Jones for a 20-yard score to cap off an explosive first quarter, putting the Quakers in the driver's seat, 21-0.
*Cornell put together a drive deep into Penn territory, but once they reached the ten yard line,
Michael Doulong picked off an Ostrander pass in the end zone to halt a 10-play, 69-yard Cornell drive - his second interception in as many games.
*On the ensuing drive, Jenkins found the end zone on a two-yard rushing touchdown to cap off ten-play, 80-yard drive following the turnover.
*After forcing a three-and-out and holding Cornell to just 49 seconds of possession with 1:19 left in the first half, the Quakers took back over on offense looking to put the game completely out of reach. Jenkins made sure of that, connecting with
Aidan Kelly for a 44-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the drive to take a 35-0 lead into halftime.
*The biggest play of the game came on the Quakers' second play of their second possession of the final 30 minutes, when Jenkins unleashed an 86-yard touchdown pass to
Andrew Sutton to put the game completely out of reach in the third quarter.
*Kicker
Theodoros Papazekos connected on a 36-yard field goal to cap off the night for Penn, while also holding on to an undefeated mark in road games this season.
