PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Five different scorers tallied six goals as the University of Pennsylvania field hockey team put up their highest win margin of the season in a 6-1 victory on the road against Brown on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Quakers improved to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in Ancient Eight action while the Bears fell to 1-15 and 0-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
*Following a strong showing from the start, the Quakers knocked in their first tally of the day in the 14
th minute when
Kelsey Mendell notched her first goal of her Penn tenure from an
Alexa Hoover assist at the top of the circle.
*Penn was quick to register their next two scores as they took a 3-0 advantage by intermission.
Gina Guccione and Hoover both found the back of the net less than two minutes apart in the 24
th and 26
th minutes off
Chelsea Duggan and
Paige Meily assists as the Red and Blue held a firm grasp on the game by halftime.
*Coming out of intermission,
Jasmine Li was next to get on the board at the 43:56 mark when
Alexa Schneck found Li cutting towards cage as the Quaker onslaught continued. Hoover put the visitors ahead by a 5-0 margin in the 55
th minute, while freshman Jordyn Theis notched the first goal of her Quaker career to put Penn up 6-0 with less than eight minutes to play in regulation.
*Brown was able to get on the board in the final four minutes of the contest off a Katherine Kallergis tally in the 66
th minute. Just moments prior,
Alexa Murray tallied a defensive save to hold off the Bears first attempt at goal.
*The Red and Blue were dominate from start to finish and held a 26-4 advantage in shots and a 9-1 lead in corners for the afternoon. On the defensive end,
Ava Rosati tallied one save in the victory while Brown's Katie Hammaker notched 11 in the defeat.
UP NEXT
The Quakers will be on short rest and return to action tomorrow to take on Providence. Game time is slated for 12 p.m. in Rhode Island.
