Volleyball Returns to The Palestra for Second Half of Ivy Slate Against Princeton

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women's volleyball team (8-8, 3-4 Ivy) will begin the second half of their Ivy League schedule Friday evening at 7 p.m. as they take on the Princeton Tigers (12-5, 5-2 Ivy). New head coach, Katie Schumacher-Cawley will look to take what she and the team learned in the first half and improve on the 3-4 conference record. Working in the Quakers' benefit is the fact that their next five matches will be played at The Palestra.

First up is no easy task however as the Red and Blue take on Princeton. The Tigers were atop the Ivy League with a perfect 5-0 record until last weekend when they dropped two straight. The two teams also met earlier this season with the Quakers losing their only match of the year by the score of 3-0.

About Penn

* The Quakers finished the first half the Ivy League slate in fifth place with a 3-4 record in conference play. They begin the second half against Princeton, a team they lost to 3-0 earlier in the year.

* The Red and Blue's 3-0 loss to Princeton earlier this year was the only time this season in which they failed to win a set. Courtney Quinn lead the team in kills with eight while Hayley Molnar and Parker Jones were right behind with seven apiece. It was also the only time all season that nobody on the team had double-digit kills or digs.

* Penn trails in the all-time series 30-47 and is on a four game losing streak. The Quakers have lost more than four straight in the series on just two separate occasions.

* Friday's match against Princeton marks the first of five straight to be played at the Palestra. The Red and Blue are 2-2 at home this season.

* Freshman Parker Jones hit a career high 22 kills in last weekend's win against Columbia. Jones' kill through 16 games is at 223 which not only leads her team but also ranks atop the Ivy League. She has also put together eight double-doubles this season. Her team is 6-2 in those games.

* Senior Sydney Morton has had quite the month of October herself. In the four matches that the Quakers have played in the month of October, Morton has 40 or more assists in three of them, including a career high 55 in the team's win over Columbia. She has played a large role defensively as she has 10 or more digs in three of the four games this month which included a career high 18 also against Columbia.

* Senior captain Kendall Covington has 149 kills this season which puts her second on the team in the category. However, Covington has by far been the most efficient Quakers attacker as she leads the team with a .350 hitting percentage which also ranks fourth in the Ivy.

* Raven Sulaimon has had a huge impact since her role increased five matches ago ranking third on the team in kills in that time. The freshman has had 10 or more kills in three of the five matches and hit the game winner last weekend in the five set win over Columbia.

* Since the beginning of conference play, Hayley Molnar ranks second on the team with 65 kills.

* Sophomore Caroline Furrer ranks third in the Ivy League with 23 aces and also has 212 digs which ranks sixth. She is just one of six players to have over 200 digs. Both marks also lead the team.

Scouting the Tigers

* After starting a strong 5-0 in conference play, the Tigers have now lost their last two, both of which were on the road. Princeton fell to both Cornell and Columbia.

* While the Quakers boast the player with the most kills in the league, the Tigers Natasha Skov ranks second has has hit the most kills per set this season.

* As a team, Princeton has hit the most kills (890) and has the third highest hitting percentage (235)

* In Princeton's losses to Cornell and Columbia the Tigers had 60 combined errors compared to just 37 from the opponents. Princeton was also held to a season low .109 hitting percentage against Cornell.

* The Tigers are an undefeated 4-0 at home, however, on the road, they are just 8-5.
