PHILADELPHIA – The University of
Pennsylvania’s head coach of men’s squash, Gilly Lane, has announced senior B.G. Lemmon as the team’s
captain for the 2016-17 season.
“We are really excited to
have B.G. lead our team this year,” said Lane.
“He has been a starter the past three seasons during one of the most successful
eras in Penn squash history. He is an individual who not only leads by example
on the court, but in the classroom as well. He represents the ideal qualities
of a student-athlete wearing the Red and Blue.”
Lemmon is coming off a
career year in the Red and Blue, as he broke Penn’s single-season wins mark
(18). The Pennsylvania native put together a regular season record of
15-2, including a 6-1 mark in the Ivy League. Lemmon helped the Quakers to
a berth into the Potter Cup, and their highest finish to a season since 2007 (5th in
the country). Lemmon’s Ivy wins came against Harvard, Dartmouth, Princeton,
Brown, Yale, and Columbia. In addition, he went 3-0 at the Potter
Cup, snagging wins over Rochester, Columbia, and Harvard.
Lemmon has been a three-year
starter for the Red and Blue, entering his senior season with 32 career wins.
Lemmon and the rest of the
Quakers will begin their new campaign with
the Ivy Scrimmages on Nov. 12-13.
