Dedicated in 2014 in honor of legendary Penn track and field coach Irving “Moon” Mondschein, the Mondschein Throwing Complex is a state-of-the-art competition venue featuring a javelin runway, hammer and discus circles, and two shot put areas. Since its opening, the Mondschein Throwing Complex has become known as "the throwing destination" for America's best throwers.
In addition, it is widely considered one of the best throwing venues with unprecedented spectator viewing areas
The Olympic-sized javelin runway features close-up viewing areas for up to 100 spectators. The Ollympic-sized cages for both hammer and discuss can each seat over 300 spectators. The shot put venue features an open-air ampitheatre for over 300 spectators.
Home to the University of Pennsylvania’s throwers throughout the year, the Mondschein Throwing Complex is also the competition venue during The Penn Relays – America’s oldest and largest track and field event which takes place the last weekend of April and draws the world’s elite competitors each year.
