Joey Rhoads Awarded Penn Athlete of the Week
March 1, 2004
Joey Rhoads (Huntingdon Vally, Pa.) added a pair of key three-point field goals for her six points to go along with her three assists and one steal in 19 minutes of play in Penn's 69-66 win over Cornell on Friday night.
Rhoads was just heating up her weekend as she scored a career-high 17 points, in just 11 minutes of play in the first half of the Quakers' 74-69 loss to Columbia on Saturday. When the dust had settled in the first half the freshman guard had scored 17-straight Penn points on 7-of-9 shooting, 3-of-5 from the outside. Her previous career-high of 15 was set in an 86-78 win over Marist on Dec. 1 at The Palestra.
Rhoads is fourth on the team in scoring (6.8 ppg), third in steals (21) and leads Penn freshman with 17.8 minutes per game, having made an appearance in all 24 games this season. The Red and Blue maintain a one-game lead in the Ivy League, with three games remaining, despite the loss to the Lions.
