Baseball Drops Second Game to North Florida, 5-3

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -Playing game two of a three-game set against North Florida, the University of Pennsylvania baseball team fell to the Ospreys, 5-3 on Saturday afternoon. Penn outhit the Ospreys 10-8, but couldn't avoid costly strikeouts in the loss.

EARLY, BUT NOT OFTEN:As they did on Friday night, North Florida got on the scoreboard in the first inning. Kyle Brooks led off the day with a walk and would later score on a two-out RBI single from Corbin Olmstead to make it 1-0.

The Ospreys doubled their lead in the fourth on a groundout from Alex Merritt that scored Keith Skinner, who led off the inning with a base hit to center.

FIRST LEAD OF 2016:Having trailed in every inning in their first two games, the Quakers broke the trend and scored three times in the fifth inning for their first lead of the young season. After singles from Matt McGeagh and Gary Tesch and a walk to Ryan Mincher with two outs, Matt Greskoff drove in a pair with a line drive to left to tie the game. The next batter, Tim Graul gave them the Quakers the lead with a base hit to right to make it 3-2.

SHORT LIVED:In the bottom of the inning, North Florida struck for two runs and retook the lead, 4-3. An RBI double from Keith Skinner and a run scoring single from Nick Kameris did the damage.

INSURANCE:The Ospreys tacked on one more in the seventh on an RBI groundout from Olmstead to make it 5-3. Olmstead also recorded the final four outs on the mound and recorded the save.

QUAKER NOTEMEAL:Penn had 10 hits on Saturday for the second consecutive game... Two players recorded three-hit games... Gary Tesch was 3-for-5 with a stolen base in the lead off spot... Tim Graul was 3-for-4 with an RBI in his first game behind the plate... Mike Reitcheck made his first start of the season, going 4.2 innings and allowing two earned runs, four total... Penn struck out 14 times on Saturday... In the first two games of the year, the Quakers have stuck out 30 times... However, Penn is hitting .274 as a team.
