STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -
The University of Pennsylvania (3-3) women's basketball team tallied their second consecutive win with a dominant 63-39 victory over Wagner (1-6) on Saturday afternoon in Staten Island, N.Y.

Sydney Stipanovich and Michelle Nwokedi both registered double-doubles to lead the Red and Blue while Nwokedi dialed in for 17 points and 10 rebounds. Stipanovich added 10 points,10 boards and four assists to register the fourth double-double of the season and the 32nd of her career.

"I think our defense was really the spark today," said Stipanovich. "We really were aggressive and got a lot of loose balls. We won those 50/50 balls that coach always talks about. That really generated our offense. We moved the ball really well and got good open shots. Everyone got touches and I think that was the main difference today that got us going.

The Quakers shot 36.8% (21-of-57) from the field including 37% from beyond the arc (10-of-27), while Wagner struggled with only six available players. The Seahawks were 33.3% on field goals (15-of-45) and just 5-of-17 (29.4%) from the three point line. The Quakers won every statistical category and also dominated the rebound battle, 38-28.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn held the Seahawks without a point for a total of 9:35 to span the first and second quarters as the Red and Blue pulled ahead by 19 off an 18-0 run in the first 20 minutes of action.

By the end of the first half, the Quakers held a healthy 29-13 advantage over Wagner off of 10-of-27 shooting from the floor and the Red and Blue took a 13 point lead, their largest of the season at the half, heading into intermission.

The Quakers continued their momentum coming out of the locker rooms. Lauren Whitlatch had the hot hands at the start of the third quarter and hit back-to-back trey's in the opening minutes to continue the scoring advantage. Chambers also joined in on the action from beyond the arc and the duo combined for nine points hitting the first three buckets of the frame. At the 6:04 mark, Anna Ross connected on both of her free throws and Beth Brzozowski added in another trey with 1:36 to play to give Penn a 48-23 lead heading into the fourth.

The backcourt pressure from Chambers and Brzozowski caused havoc on the Wagner guards in the final stanza, and the Red and Blue forced the Seahawks to seven turnovers in the last 10 minutes. Penn went on an 11-0 run to close the contest, notching a game-high 28-point lead with 1:22 left to play as they claimed the win 63-39.
