Baseball Starts Spring Trip with a Bang

Penn 11, Georgetown 3 Box Score

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Penn opened up its Spring Trip with an 11-3 win over Georgetown at Rollins College. With the win, the Quakers up their record to 2-1 – with all games having been played against Georgetown.

The Hoyas took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Sean Baumann drove in Dan Capeless. From that moment on, it was all Penn.

The Red and Blue scored six runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Tom Grandieri drove in Adrian Thomas with a single in the fourth and Jeremy Maas plated Dan Williams with a sacrifice fly in the fourth to give Penn a 2-1 lead.

In the fifth inning, a double from freshman Derek Vigoa drove in Adrian Lorenzo who had reached on a double of his own to right-center. The run gave Penn back the lead after the Hoyas had tied the game in the top half of the fifth.

In the sixth, Grandieri continued his home run streak. For the third game in a row, the junior right fielder went yard. His three-run homer to right field scored Steve Gable and Williams who had reached via singles.

After a run from Georgetown in the top of the seventh to get back within three runs, the Quakers exploded in the bottom of the eighth for five runs that put the game out of reach. The big blast came from Lorenzo who added the second three-run homer of the game for the Quakers with a shot down the right field line.

Todd Roth picked up the win for Penn, going six and a third innings while allowing three earned runs. He struck out seven batters. Robbie Seymour, Reid Terry and William Gordon combined for 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
