Stratton Gilmore was named an assistant coach with the University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis program by head coach Rich Bonfiglio in February 2023.

The Quakers reached new heights in Gilmore's third year at University City. They won the second-most matches in a single season, finishing 21-9 with a 3-4 record in Ivy League play. Penn broke the program record for most home wins in a season at 17. The Red and Blue reached as high as No. 28 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, their second-highest ranking ever. Following the season, Manfredi Graziani received second-team All-Ivy honors. Gilmore helped recruit the No. 7 Nationally Ranked Recruiting Class in 2025, the best in school history.

In 2024, the Quakers went 16-12 and added a pair of Ivy League wins. Penn hosted the ECAC Championships inside the Hecht Tennis Center, defeating Dartmouth in the opening round, downing Cornell, and advancing to the final against Princeton. Following the season, the tandem of Kian Vakili and Aaron Sandler were named second-team All-Ivy.

Penn had a 13-9 record in Gilmore's first season on staff, including a 5-2 Ivy League mark. Following the season, Edoardo Graziani and Kevin Zhu made history as the program's first doubles duo to qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship, winning their first-round match before falling in the Round of 16. They earned first-team All-Ivy recognition from the Ancient Eight coaches, with Zach Lim and Harsh Parikh named second-team in doubles. Graziani and Zhu also earned second-team All-Ivy in singles along with Aditya Gupta.

Gilmore came to Philadelphia after spending the 2022 fall season and early part of the 2023 spring season with the University of Virginia, part of the coaching staff for a Cavaliers team that would win the 2023 NCAA team championship. Coaching duties included creating developmental plans for players, traveling and coaching with the team full time and assisting with administrative duties, researching and analyzing potential recruits, traveling and coaching players at ITF Futures and ATP Challenger events in Charlottesville and Knoxville.

Previously based out of Delray Beach, Florida, Gilmore was a private coach for high-performance juniors, as well as a ATP hitting partner at the Delray Beach Open, practicing with professionals competing at the ATP 250 event.

Following his collegiate playing days, Gilmore competed in ITF Futures internationally and in Club Tennis in Belgium.

Originally a native of Madison, Wisconsin, Gilmore spent one year at Portland State before transferring to Mary Washington, where he played in the top half of the lineup for teams that made three straight NCAA Round of 16 appearances. Gilmore graduated from Mary Washington in 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication.
