Cassie Hageman was named an assistant coach with the University of Pennsylvania gymnastics program in November 2021. In her position, Hageman works with the balance beam unit.
In her two seasons at Penn, Hageman has helped lead the Quakers to a pair of Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) Regular Season and Championship team titles in 2022 and 2023.Â
Under Hageman's guidance in 2023, Penn remained at the top with its second straight GEC Regular Season and Championship team title. McCaleigh Marr was named GEC Co-Specialist of the Year after leading the team on balance beam and uneven bars. Hageman was instrumental in the beam unit setting the new program-record mark at Temple on February 19, scoring a 49.475. Campbell and McCaleigh Marr notched twin scores of 9.950 in the event, both individual program-record scores. Six Quakers earned a total of nine first-team All-GEC honors while seven earned eight second-team laurels. McCaleigh Marr won the Ivy Classic title on beam, as Penn took second for the second year in row. Along with Casey Rohrbaugh, Hageman was named GEC Assistant Coach of the Year.
The 2022 season, Hageman's first with the program, was certainly successful as the Quakers won both the regular-season and Championship team titles in the inaugural season of the Gymnastic East Conference (GEC) and McCaleigh Marr was an individual qualifier on the balance beam at the NCAA Regional in Norman, Okla. The team also set a pair of program scoring records, scoring 194.775 in a dual with Ursinus on February 20 and posting its best score on the road three separate times with a 195.375 at Towson on February 13, a 196.225 at Maryland on March 13, and finally a 196.950 six days later at the GEC Championships.
Under Hageman's tutelage, the beam unit set the top two scores in program history six days apart, scoring 49.175 at Maryland on March 13 and then bettering it with a 49.250 score at the GEC Championships on March 19. Individually, Marr twice tied a 22-year-old record on the beam by scoring 9.950 at Towson on February 13 and again at the GEC Championships where she won the individual title.
Marr also posted the second-best score in program history in the bars at the GEC Championships in 2022, while Sara Kenefick tied a 21-year-old mark on the floor exercise at the GECs (9.975) to win the individual title. Another record was matched in the vault, Ariyana Agarwala tying the program's 10-year-old record at the Maryland Quad on March 13 (9.900), and Penn compiled eight first-team and nine second-team honors at the inaugural GEC Championships.
Prior to joining the Quakers, Hageman served as an assistant coach at Temple for two seasons. During the 2019-20 academic year, she was a graduate assistant for the Owls. In her role, Hageman assisted the coaching staff in daily administrative tasks, recruiting and overseeing all four gymnastics events. She also helped guide the team to their second consecutive ECAC championship, despite the season being cut short due to COVID-19.
In her second season with Temple, Hageman was responsible for coaching the balance beam. Temple's beam team jumped 23 spots during the 2021 season, recording the highest NQS (49.144) in program history. Under her tutelage, two gymnasts earned All-EAGL honors and seven student-athletes garnered All-ECAC distinction.
A four-year student-athlete at West Chester, Hageman amassed numerous accolades as a Golden Ram. In each of the four years of her collegiate career, she won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Academic Achievement Award, was named to the ECAC All-Academic Team and was named an USAG Scholastic All-American. During each of her final three years at West Chester, she qualified for the USAG Collegiate Nationals.
While at West Chester, Hageman served as a representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and participated in several leadership conferences. She gained experience mentoring young gymnasts as a coach at Roth's Crosspoint Gymnastics and at West Chester's summer gymnastics camps.
Hageman graduated from West Chester Magna Cum Laude in May 2019.
