Claire Hewitt

A 2005 University of Pennsylvania graduate, Claire Hewitt returned to her alma mater as the program's Director of Operations in September 2019. More than two years later, in December 2021, she was named the Director of Operations for the Penn Relays.

Hewitt came back to Penn after a stint as co-head coach of cross country and track & field at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. There, she helped oversee the entire program with her primary duties including building and executing a comprehensive recruiting plan; projecting, proposing, tracking and managing the program's budgets; planning the Quakers’ competition schedule, travel, lodging and meals; and ensuring compliance with school, conference and NCAA rules and policies and cultivating relationships with alumni.

Before joining the staff at Earlham, Hewitt served as Penn’s Director of Operations in 2013-14 and was responsible for logistics like travel, home meet management, conference championship meet hosting, equipment and gear distribution, and budgetary accounting while assisting in matters like program management, compliance, recruiting, alumni relations and mentoring.

A graduate from the School of Arts and Sciences, Hewitt was the first recipient of the "125 Years of Women at Penn" Scholarship and competed in cross country and track for the Quakers. During her career, Hewitt set the program record in the 3K steeplechase and was a three-time Academic All-America.

Following graduation, Hewitt was named the head coach at the Germantown Friends School in 2006 and stayed until 2008 when she became a tutor for the Department of Academic Services for Student-Athletes with complementary assistant coaching stints at St. Joseph’s and Penn.
