Taryn Ficken was hired at the University of Pennsylvania in January 2022.
Ficken came to Penn from another Ivy League institution, Cornell University, where she spent two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer and two more as an assistant athletic trainer. During those four years Ficken worked with the Big Red’s football program as well as with the heavyweight, lightweight and women’s rowing programs.
During her time at Cornell, Ficken worked with several major events including the Ivy Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships, the ECAC Tennis Championship, the NCAA Northeast Regional Fencing Championships and the New York State Wrestling Tournament.
Ficken is a 2018 graduate of Temple University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, and in May 2020 she earned a Master of Science in Exercise and Sports Science from Ithaca College with a concentration in sports psychology. As an undergraduate at Temple, Ficken worked with the Owls’ Campus Recreation staff as an administrative assistant and supervisor in Intramural Sports.
Ficken has been a National Athletic Trainer Association (NATA) member since 2016 and is certified Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid for the professional rescuer.
