Maddie Carrigan was hired as an assistant coach with the Penn men’s and women’s swimming & diving programs in July 2022.
Carrigan has been instrumental during three successful seasons for the Quakers, mentoring two individual Ivy champions on the women's side including Anna Kalandadze (a four-time Ivy champ) and Kayla Fu, who won the Ivy title in the 100 freestyle in 2025.
Carrigan arrived in University City after working as a media productions and broadcasting teacher at her former high school, Blue Valley Southwest High School in Overland Park, Kan. She led the production and operation of school TV broadcasts and oversaw the submissions for national video contests.
Prior to returning to her alma mater, Carrigan spent a season as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s swimming teams at Franklin (Ind.) College. While on staff with the Grizzlies, she coached national qualifiers and led the women’s team to the 2020-21 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) title. Carrigan recruited the largest class in school history of 21 incoming athletes and produced social media content for the team.
Carrigan also has spent time coaching with Empire KC Swim Club and at three Kansas City-area high schools (Osawatomie, Paola, and Louisburg), as well as coaching Summer League (2013-22). During COVID, as coach of Empire KC, she led group online dryland workouts.
Originally from Overland Park, Kan., Carrigan graduated from LIU Brooklyn with a Bachelor of Arts degree in media arts. While at LIU Brooklyn, she was a four-year member of the women’s swim team and was twice named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll (2015-16, 2016-17). She earned All-NEC Third Team honors during her sophomore season as she finished with a pair of third-place finishes at the NEC Championships, in the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay.
