Jeremy Hurdle recently completed his first season as assistant coach for men's soccer at the University of Pennsylvania. The Quakers finished 2016 with a record of 5-5-6, including a 3-3-1 mark in the Ivy League.
Hurdle
comes to Penn after a two-year stint as head girls soccer coach at Germantown
Friends School in Philadelphia. While at GFS, Hurdle guided his team to the
2014 Friends School League championship – the first in school history. That
2014 team would go on to reach the PAISAA state semifinals – also for the first
time in school history. Six players from the team were selected as Friends
League All-League representatives, while one player was named as a Southeastern
PA All-Star.
Recently,
Hurdle was named one of 30 coaches nationwide to the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America’s “30 Under 30” program which provides year-long
mentorship to up-and-coming coaches.
“We
are excited to have Jeremy join our staff,” said Fuller. “I have come to know
him the past few years with his work at our Elite 300 Academy and his
professionalism and passion for soccer is clearly evident when you see him
interact with players. We know we have a rising star in the sport, and he will
be a tremendous addition to our program.”
In
addition to his work at Germantown Friends, Hurdle has extensive experience
coaching at the club level. At Yardley Makefield Soccer Club (YMS), he has
served as head coach of multiple Premier teams. He currently coaches the U14
YMS Premier 01 team and spent time as head coach if the U18 Premier team in 2014-15.
In 2016, Hurdle was a staff coach at the Region I ODP Camp. He has also coached
on the boys side at Germantown Academy where he was an assistant in 2013. In
addition to coaching at the GFS Soccer camps, he has been on staff at Rudy
Fuller’s Elite 300 Soccer Academy since 2014 and at Stuart Malcolm’s Soccer
Academy since 2006.

I am eager to get started," said Hurdle. "I see soccer, and sport in
general, as a powerful tool for shaping character and values that apply far
beyond the field of play, and I look forward to being able to contribute to
that process at an elite University. Soccer has always been my passion, and I
will approach the position with the same enthusiasm and drive that I have
brought to all my soccer endeavors.”
Hurdle
currently holds a USSF National C license and a National Diploma from the
NSCAA. Additionally, he holds several specialized certifications including
certificates in Professional Development, Mental/Physical Player Development,
and also a Future Coaches Diploma.
As
a player, Hurdle was a four-year starter at McGill University in Montreal,
Canada (2008-12), and captained the team in his senior year. His stellar
performance earned him a Canadian Silver Medal in 2009 and the Quebec Silver
Medal in 2009 and 2011, as well as a one-time conference all-star recognition.
Prior to this, he captained a team for the University of Auckland, New Zealand,
and led them to the championship title at the 2011 NZ University Games.
Hurdle
graduated from McGill in 2012 with a degree in Geography.
