Matt Carmody

Matt Carmody has been an assistant coach with the University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight crew program since August 2018. A Boathouse Row veteran, he came to Penn with prior college coaching experience at La Salle University and Saint Joseph’s University.

Carmody hails from nearby Briarcliffe and began his rowing career at Monsignor Bonner High School. That turned into a college career at the University of California where he helped the Bears win the IRA National Championships team title as a senior in 2006 as well as a pair of Pac-10 championships. His freshman year, Cal finished second in the Freshman Eight at the 2003 IRA National Championships.
 
Carmody graduated from Cal with a degree in political science and a minor in city and regional planning.
