Biography

2009-10: In a season limited by injury, went 9-4 overall ... Temple Open Silver Medalist (11/1) ... Went 3-0 against both Drew (1/10) and Haverford (1/23) ... Went 1-2 versus defending national champion Penn State (1/23).

 

2008-09: Second-team All-America … First-team All-Ivy … NCAA Championships qualifier ... IFA Sabre Team champion … IFA Men’s Three-Weapon champion … IFA Six-Weapon champion … Had the most wins on the team, finishing the season with a 35-5 record … Started the season with a 5-0 record at the Penn Multi-Meet (1/11) … Went 3-0 against North Carolina (1/11) … Went 7-1 at the Princeton Multi-Meet, sweeping opponents from both Duke and Drew (1/25) … Went 13-2 in the Ivy League Round Robins … Was undefeated against Princeton (2/8), Brown (2/8) and Yale (2/23) … Won nine bouts at the IFA Championships to help his sabre squad to the team title (2/28) … Also contributed to the men’s three-weapon title and the overall six-weapon championship at the IFA meet … Fenced his way to first place at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional (3/7) to earn his automatic berth to the NCAA Championships … Won 17 bouts at NCAAs to finish sixth (3/19-20).



2007-08: Honorable mention All-America ... First-team All-Ivy ... Finished in second at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional ... Member of the IFA Champion sabre team ... Compiled a 26-3 record in the regular season ... Was undefeated at the Penn Multi-Meet (12/1) where he won all eight of his bouts ... Was 3-0 against Duke (1/13) ... At the Ivy League Round Robins, he went 13-2 ... Won nine matches at the IFA Championships (2/24) to help sabre team win the championship ... Also had nine wins at NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional (3/1) to qualify for the NCAA Championships ... Finished in 11th place at NCAAs (3/15-3/16) with 12 wins.


2006-07: Did not fence due to injury.

High School: Four-time National Champion and two-time Junior Olympic Champion ... Has won 40 medals at USFA events ... Has competed and medaled in international competitions in Poland, Italy and Hungary ... Has been named National Point Leading Champion for his age division three times ... In 2004, was named to the 2004 United States Cadet World Championship Team ... Salutatorian of graduating class... Historian of National Honor.

Personal: son of Kathy and Ronald Berkowsky... brother of current Penn fencer, and two-time All-American Ron Berkowsky... enrolled in Wharton.
