Why Penn? Most of all, I chose Penn for the team culture and coaches. During recruiting I realized that Penn was the place to go because I wanted to become the best rower possible and knew that the academics would also be top-tier. Philly is definitely a great place to be for college, too.”

Why rowing?I row for the challenge and for the relationships it allows you to make. It is the most challenging sport I have ever been involved in, and even after trying many other sports I firmly believe that the relationships built through rowing are the strongest that one can form through a sport. Challenging yourself with friends and putting yourself on the line for them is something I look forward to every day. The meditative aspect of rowing is amazing too—having time to just concentrate on how you are moving, and to be conscious of your body as a part of a complex machine including the boat, oars and other people is great for my headspace.”
