Ryan Becker W'13 is in his third season as tight ends coach of the Quakers.
In 2021, Penn went 3-7 with non-conference victories at Bucknell and at home versus Lehigh. The Quakers defeated Bucknell, 20-0, and it marked Penn's first shutout since the 2009 team capped a perfect Ivy League season with a 34-0 win over Cornell. The Red and Blue scored an Ancient Eight win at home versus Brown thanks to defeating the Bears, 45-17. During the year, Isaiah Malcome was honored as the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week on October 11 and Garrett Morris was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week on November 1. Seven Quakers brought home All-Ivy honors, highlighted by Prince Emili and Brian O'Neill bringing home first-team accolades.
During his first autumn on staff in 2019, he saw the team rank 36th in the nation in passing offense (249.0 ypg) and he helped the Quaker score over 24 points per game.
A two-time Ivy League champion as a quarterback with the Quakers, Becker was a part of the 2010 and 2012 Ivy title teams during his four seasons with the Red and Blue. Becker appeared in 25 career games, and threw for over 1,600 yards and 10 touchdowns after transferring from Florida State.
Following his graduation from Wharton, Becker began his coaching career with a stint as a graduate assistant coach at Florida State. He spent the 2014-16 seasons on staff with the Seminoles, beginning his tenure as a Quality Control Coach on the offensive side of the ball before spending two seasons as a Graduate Assistant. The Seminoles went 33-7 during Becker's time in Tallahassee, advancing to the 2015 College Football Playoff and winning the Orange Bowl in 2016.
In 2017, Becker was Assistant Director of Operations with the Quakers. He was responsible for assisting with day-to-day operations of the 18-time Ivy League champions as well as recruiting and player development efforts.
Most recently, Becker served as tight ends coach at East Tennessee State University in 2018. The Bucs were 8-4 overall and 6-2 in SoCon play last season to share the conference title, advancing to the FCS playoffs for the second time in program history. Tight end Evan Wick was named second-team All-SoCon under Becker's tutelage.
Becker is married to Kirsten (Strausbaugh) Becker C'13, Penn's head gymnastics coach, and they have a son, Drew.
