Malik Hall enters his fourth season as defensive line coach at Penn in 2018 after earning Ivy League championships in each of his first two seasons in University City.

In 2017, Hall's defensive linemen accounted for 9.5 sacks, led by first-team All-Ivy selection Louis Vecchio with 3.0.

Hall's defensive line was a big force in Penn's run to a second straight Ivy League title in 2016, led by first-team All-Ivy selection Louis Vecchio who was fifth in the Ivy League with 5.5 sacks and sixth with 10.5 tackles for loss. The defensive line accounted for both of Penn's Ivy-leading defensive touchdowns in 2016, with Vecchio and Tayler Hendrickson each scoring in Penn's win over No. 22/24 Harvard at Franklin Field.

In his first season with the Red and Blue, Hall worked with a defense which was second in the Ivy League and No. 8 among FCS programs in turnover margin in 2015, picking off 14 passes and recovering 11 fumbles to help Penn finish +1.00. The Red and Blue led the Ivy League and were No. 13 nationally in sacks-per-game with 2.9.

A pair of defensive lineman were named All-Ivy at the conclusion of the 2015 season: second-team selection Lukas Nossem and honorable mention choice Dan Connaughton.

Hall has spent the last 12 years as a defensive line coach or a defensive coordinator, including the 2012-14 seasons at the helm of the Wagner defense. Under Hall in 2014, Wagner ranked second in the FCS in rushing defense (83.1 yds/gm) and finished sixth in the country in total defense (281.3 yds/gm). The Seahawks also forced the most turnovers in the Northeast Conference (NEC), finished ninth in the nation in scoring defense (18.0 ppg) and allowed the fewest first downs in the FCS.

Hall was also the mastermind behind the NEC’s No. 1 defense in 2012, spearheading Wagner to the 2012 NEC title and a second-round NCAA FCS Playoff appearance. Statistically, the numbers produced by the 2012 defense reflect both dominance and balance as the Seahawks led the NEC in scoring defense (16.3), total defense (312.2) and pass defense efficiency (115.1) while ranking second in pass defense (168.2) and third in rushing defense (144.0). Individually, Hall developed three second-team All-NEC performers.

During his tenure with the Seahawks, Hall saw four of his pupils sign NFL free agent contracts.

Hall also spent one season as the defensive line coach at his alma mater, UMass, and served as an assistant on the staffs at Fordham, Hofstra, and Central Connecticut. In 2006 and 2009, the Detroit, Mich., native served as the Defensive Line coach and Special Teams Coordinator at Fordham. During the 2006 season, he helped develop an All-America selection and two All-Patriot League picks.

From 2007-08, he coached the defensive line at Hofstra while also serving as the program’s NFL Liaison. At Hofstra in 2008, Hall was part of the top-rated passing defense in the Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA). In 2007, Hofstra ranked first in the CAA and 11th in the FCS in rushing defense, and second in the conference and 15th in the nation in total defense.

As a collegiate player, Hall helped led UMass to the Atlantic 10 Championship title game as a senior in 2003 when he posted 46 tackles, five for loss, and two sacks. He transferred to UMass in the Spring of 2002 after playing at Vermillion Community College in Ely, Minn. He graduated in December 2003 from UMass with a degree in sociology and education.

Hall and his wife Ayesha are the proud parents of Malik and Kayah.
