RHODES FIELD

Rhodes Field was dedicated during Homecoming festivities on November 2, 2002 and is the official home of the Penn men’s and women’s soccer programs. Through the generosity of several alumni, Rhodes Field now has a beautiful brick façade with elevated spectator seating for 650 and the Rapaport Family Suite for alumni events. The 2005 season marked the return of nighttime soccer to Penn, as lights were installed at Rhodes Field. The addition greatly enhanced the atmosphere of games, as the Quakers hosted packed crowds for night games. The installation of the floodlights were made possible by the generosity of Marc Rapaport W’79.

The most recent renovation took place in the summer of 2013, when the entire field was moved about 30 yards south. New bench areas were put in for both teams, matching the brick façade of the existing stands and Rapaport Suite. The game operations area was elevated and expanded to include space for the broadcast team, announcers, scoreboard and videoboard operators, and statisticians. The field also was highlighted by the addition of a rotating videoboard that is shared between Rhodes and Vagelos Fields.

As a premier natural grass pitch in the Philadelphia area, Rhodes Field is a sought-after training destination for many professional and international teams. The United States Men’s and Women’s National Teams have trained at Rhodes several times, while multiple Major League Soccer teams have used the facility when in town to play the Philadelphia Union.
