Michael R. Page
A midfielder, Page played three seasons of varsity lacrosse for the Quakers. He graduated as the program’s all-time leader with 80 goals and third with 112 points.
A co-captain his senior year, Page earned first-team United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America honors after being a third-team selection in 1975 and 1976. In addition, he was named first-team Ally-Ivy in 1976 and 1977 and second-team All-Ivy as a sophomore in 1975. Page was selected to play in the North-South game following his senior year and was named Co-Most Outstanding Player of the game with teammate Peter Hollis.
Page was named the USILA’s Division I Midfielder of the Year as a senior in 1977—the only Penn player to be honored with a national award by the USILA before Sam Handley in 2022—and was an NCAA Heroes Award recipient as the outstanding midfielder in college lacrosse that same season.
During Page’s playing career the Quakers went 21-12 overall including a 12-6 mark in Ivy League play, one of the best three-year periods in the history of Quaker lacrosse. Under head coach “Ace” Adams, the 1977 squad headlined by Page and Hollis went 10-1 in the regular season—the first team in program history to finish with a double-digit win total—with its only loss coming against eventual NCAA champion Cornell. Page also played in Penn’s first two NCAA Championship appearances, the Quakers falling to Navy in the quarterfinal round in both 1975 and 1977.
Page also enjoyed a lacrosse career at the international level, playing for the U.S. All-World Lacrosse Team in 1978 and 1982. In 1981, he was selected as the National Player of the Year by the U.S. Club Lacrosse Association.
Page later coached at Penn for one season and was a player/coach with the National Lacrosse League’s Philadelphia Wings from 1988 to 1994. During that time the Wings won a pair of World Indoor Championships. In 1993, he was inducted into the Long Island Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
