Student Development Center - Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Program - Study Hall

?Study Hall Program

The Student Development staff wants the transition to life as a Penn student-athlete to be as smooth as possible, and we understand that balancing academics and athletics at the collegiate level takes some adjustment. While student-athletes have coaches and administrators ushering them through the process of adapting to their athletic responsibilities, we take on the role of helping student-athletes thrive in the classroom from the start.

We do this through the Study Hall Program. The Study Hall Program organized for incoming freshman in which we provide six hours of monitored study time throughout each week during their first semester. Students have the flexibility to choose from 24 hours of available session time throughout each week, including some morning and evening sessions, as well as weekend opportunities. As student-athletes progress into their second semester, and through their academic careers, required hours are reviewed and amended based on student needs.

The purpose of the Study Hall Program is to provide structured study time during an important transitional period in the student-athlete’s career, and to introduce them to academic resources on campus. The hope is that this initial structured and supported time helps students to develop their own effective study routines that they begin to employ independently, and that carry them through a successful academic career at Penn.
